Please hear what I'm about to say, because I say this out of love. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone. I say this because I've been guilty of this for most of my life. I'm tired of it and tired of seeing it in those around me.
The biggest danger to the Kingdom of God are those who claim to be Christians but their lives look nothing like Christ. Hypocritical Christians who try to live like the world turn those who don't know the Bible or what REAL Christianity is away from God.
"I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! 16 But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!" - Revelation 3:15-16
Straddling the fence is NOT okay. Satan owns the fence. Don't use the excuse of trying to be "relatable" either. 1 Thessalonians 5:22 says, "Abstain from ALL appearance of evil."
Christians don't save the souls of a broken world by being "relatable". No one wants to know the God of someone who is just as messed up as everyone else. If you want to change lives, be DIFFERENT than everyone else around you, not the same.
"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." - Romans12:2
Most importantly, LOVE those around you. You don't need to point out the sin of someone who isn't even a believer. You can't beat someone over the head with a rulebook and expect that to somehow win them over. You're just pushing them further away from God. Conviction is the job of the Holy Spirit. OUR job is to show the love of Christ and let people know there's a God who is absolutely crazy about them.
"So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” - John 13:34-35
If you claim to be a follower of Christ and this post offended you, I would invite you to examine your heart and ask yourself if you've been guilty of being a poor example of Christianity, like I have. If so, hit your knees right now and make yourself right with God. I love you guys. God bless!
